The Higher National Diploma in Art and Design is a fast track to a successful career in the creative industries.

The specialist track in graphic design offers an introduction to a wide range of graphic disciplines, allowing you to specialize in any aspect of the graphic design industry that you wish to pursue.

This course focuses on developing design skills, practical programming knowledge and technical skills to work in a design environment.

The course is offered through a combination of courses in the Mac studio, practical workshops, lectures, individual tutorials, as well as trips to galleries, street art and museums.

Admission requirements

For Great Britain and EU students:

  • A-level standard or equivalent qualifications abroad.
  • Other UK Level 3 qualifications (e.g., Foundation Diploma, HE Access Certificate, BTEC/National Diploma, Advanced GNVQ or AVCE).
  • Higher qualifications equal to Level 3 (e.g., Baccalaureate Diploma, Brandos Atestas, Ensino Medio, etc.).
  • Submission of an artwork portfolio.
  • Mature candidates (21+) without standard academic training but with relevant work experience (min 2 years) may be considered. They’ll undergo an interview, functional skills testing, and provide two references. Admission decisions are case-specific.
What will I learn in this course?

You will learn and work with the latest digital software (Adobe Suite), studying a series of modules that develop skills in digital design, typography, branding, infographics, packaging, motion graphics, illustration and editorial design. You will also be further prepared by developing basic skills in professional practice, contextual research studies and visual communication, you will have the chance to respond to professional briefs and you will be taught by specialist tutors and visiting lecturers who work with everyone in industry.
